Style Diary: A Night Downtown - June 8, 2013

Hellllooo, everybody!

So on Friday, I had a cute little girls night and we went downtown to go eat at the Ritz-Carleton, as one does on every Saturday night.  So I figured, yay, I look semi-presentable might as well take some mediocre pictures in my room for my blog!!! It sucks that I don't know where my bigger tripod is because then I could take pictures with the DSLR rather than my point and shoot. Anyways, this has nothing to do with anything.  This is what I wore...

Shoes: Brash - Payless Shoes

Nails: Essie Click It or Ticket

So that is all for now!  This month is extremely busy as exams are in less than two weeks, this is my last full week of school.  So please forgive me if my posts are extremely sparse and I'm not on as much.  Good luck to anyone taking exams or to anyone who has taken them and are dreadfully awaiting results.  Thanks so much for reading. x

VAMPIRE WEEKEND CONCERT

HELLOOOOOO EVERYONE!

I am super excited to be writing this post as I never tell you about the concerts I go to since this has been a strictly beauty blog until recently.  Anyways, on Thursday May 16, 2013 I went to a Vampire Weekend concert because I am in love with Ezra Koenig.  He is such a babe and I can go on forever about how much I love him, it's actually bringing tears to my eyes.

So we got to the venue and waited for a few of my friends to come as well.  There was 7 of us excluding me who were going to the concert however we bought tickets separately so different groups had different seats.  I am pleased to announce we were the closest to the stage HYFR.

Then we went inside to watch the opening act the High Highs and they were absolutely amazing.  They're from Sydney, Australia and they have an ultra chill vibe.  They are so good live and I would fot sure recommend checking them out.  I actually got to meet the High Highs after and they signed by ticket.
The signed ticket
Olli and Jack from the High Highs -- it's super blurry
After that we went back in the theatre for intermission.  Then we saw two strangely familiar looking guys.  Me and my friends realized who it was and yelled out one of their names and he looked at us and waved.  Then we creepily followed them to their seats and asked for a picture with one of them.  I am talking about Joffrey Lupul from the Toronto Maple Leafs who was with Kostka.

IM WITH LUPUL OMG
After that we went back to our seat and the concert started.  It was one of the best concerts of my life.  Vampire Weekend sounds absolutely amazing live and there music makes you feel so good.  I just really love Ezra Koenig to conclude.  I've attached some pictures and a video of the Oxford Comma performance since it's my favourite VW song and the one I was going to upload failed.

It was one of the best concerts I've been to and I can't wait to share more of my concert experiences with you guys.  I love you guys so much but I will probably always love Ezra a tiny bit more.  Thanks for reading and let me know your opinion on VW ( it better be good)!!

Favourite Summer Nail Polishes

Hey guys,

So as I'm working on a personal post I thought I would do a little beauty post for you.  I have this deep routed obsession with nail polishes and my friend's older sister actually runs a hugely popular nail blog called Precious Polish.  If you don't read Brittney's blog already, you should because she is insanely talented and doing my nails in the summer!  Anyways, these are my picks for Summer (in alphabetical order).

The first one is Essie's Ballet Slippers which is just a super pale pink nude colour.  It's really pretty and subtle and keeps your nails looking clean, fresh and classic really.  The only thing is this polish is super thin so you might need several coats of it.

Secondly, there's Wet n Wild's Blazed.  This is a bright coral pink colour which is super flattering when you're tanned.  I feel like it's a colour that would suit a lot of skin tones and it's super cheap and the quality is great.

Next is China Glaze's Custom Kicks.  This is a blue colour but as you can see in the close up it has really pretty green shimmers that make it different from any blue.  This is super bright and really pretty.

Wet n Wild's Lady Luck is a berry pink colour with purple shimmer throughout.  I love this colour for my toes and I think it would suit a wide range of skintones.  Wet n Wild Wild Shines are really good quality and about $4 so pick a bunch up when you go to Wal Mart or something.

Mint Candy Apple by Essie is a great pale version of robin egg blue.  It reminds me of the bluer version of For Audrey by China Glaze (which is not included in this because it looks terrible on me).  It's really pretty however, it suits paler skin tones better.

Miss World by SpaRitual is my favourite pink I own.  It's a good medium pink colour with gold shimmers in it.  It looks so pretty on and whenever I dont know what to paint my nails I always opt for this colour.

This is probably my favourite colour I own.  Sally Hansen's Pacific Blue is a beautiful blue and it looks amazing with a tan.  I am literally in love with this colour and I am so glad it's summer so I can start wearing it again.

Rage by Orly is a great metallic rose gold colour.  It has silver shimmers in it and it looks so pretty on all skin tones.  Orly just has a great selection of metallics and neons in general!

China Glaze's Re-Fresh Mint is a beautiful creme mint green colour.  This colour just reminds me of Spring and Easter.  I do believe this colour looks better on lighter skin tones however.

As for neons, I chose to pick my favourite neon pink by China Glaze called Rose Among Thorns.  I like topping this with China Glaze's 108 Degrees which is a bright pink with shimmer.  To make this colour really bright apply a white base first and it will look like your nails are glowing.

Next is OPI's Royal Flush Blush which was from a limited edition collection.  Its my favourite coral colour because it's has this gorgeous gold undertone that makes my nails look so pretty.  If you can find this colour still, for sure buy it, it's one of my all time favourites.

I thought I would include a colour changing polish since it is almost Summer.  This is Ruby Wing's Sand Dune.  As you can see it's a coral colour that turns into a berry pink when it's exposed to the sun.

Lastly, the only turquoise that looks good on me - Turquoise & Caicos by Essie.  It's a bit darker than robin egg blue (Tiffany Blue) and it looks good on literally everybody.  The consistency is a bit thin (like most Essie polishes) so I usually do three coats.

So those are my favourite nail polishes of the Summer.  Let me know what new nail polishes I should pick up and which ones are you faves in the comments section.  Thank you so much for reading and I hoped you enjoyed x

Style Diary: Mum's Birthday Dinner (April 20th, 2013)

Hello friends,

In the spur of the moment decision I have decided to rename my outfit of the days and nights as Style Diaries.  Technically what I am doing is documenting my outfits for all of you in a public journal so it seems fit that I renamed it, this is just for reference that when a title says "Style Diary" its just an outfit of the day or night.

So let's get started with today's Style Diary.  So tonight, I am going to my mum's dinner party for her birthday.  We're going to eat at a semi-fancy restaurant so I decided this outfit would be blog worthy (any outfit where I don't look homeless is basically blog worthy.) So this is what I'm wearing tonight

I wore a black long sleeved cropped lace top from Topshop.

With dark wash Leigh Soft Ankle Grazer Skinnies also from Topshop (these feel heavenly).

As for accessories I wore one of my own flower crowns from BeauxBoutique and earrings which were not photographed since I have no idea where I got them from (courtesy of mum's accessories stash).

For shoes I wore my Jeffery Campbell Litas in Beige Suede that I bought from B2.

So that was my style diary of tonight so I hope you all enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to making more of these posts and hopefully a spring lookbook when I get time to do that but for sure more Style Diaries as they are easier to write and take photos of.  Thank you all for reading, I love you so much x.

Getting Artsy

Hi all,

So today this is a half beauty half thoughts post on my wonderful and craftsy day with one of my best friends Melissa.  So today, Melissa came over to my house for what we jokingly called "Slavery Day". Basically, we decided to start a "business" back in January to make hair bows but since I'm obsessed with flower crowns I insisted we make flower crowns as well.  So Mel came over today so we could watch Gossip Girl and make some bows and flower crowns.

So basically we made a huge mess in on mt living room floor but as you can see from the (pixel-y) instagram photo I uploaded it was quite a task but it was fun and a lot of our friends like our flower crowns. So we made a lot of flower crowns and here are some of the ones we made....

And now here are the bows we made....

We had so much fun and it's a great bonding experience to make them.  To be honest, it makes me sad knowing we're selling the flower crowns, they're all so pretty and I just want to keep them all!  Here's a group shot of everything we made minus the two crowns we made with the left over branches and flowers after via Mel's instagram

Now... me being the flower child and egoistical person I am, well I decided to have a mini selfie session with me in the flower crowns and took my love for editing phone apps to make a new display picture for my twitter and instagram and tumblr and even my picture on here so here are some selfies.

As I mentioned before, all of these things are on sale.  We tried setting up an Etsy shop but currently we just have an Instagram @BeauxBoutique and an e-mail for orders shopbeauxboutique@gmail.com if you are interested.  But mainly this post is to prove to everyone that I am truly a flower child and making my obsession with flower crowns has gone way too far.  If you guys want a tutorial on how to make flower crowns let me know in the comments.  Thank you so much for reading, I love you all x

Shopaholic Tag

Hey everyone!

So I found this tag the other day and I thought it would be super fun to do just because whenever I do tags now they aren't as beauty related anymore and just personal so this is a great mix of both!  I hate writing intros because I ramble so much so I'm just going to start answering the questions!

1. Would you consider yourself a shopaholic?
Yes, no, probably, well ya.... I always buy something and there's a mall close by to my school so some days I just go shopping during my lunch break wow I need therapy (retail therapy).

2. How would you classify your style?
My style is all over the place, I look like a hobo anytime I'm not in uniform pretty much.  I have either a really grungy style or an extremely preppy girly side so it's all over the place.  However, I am in uniform for most of the week so....

3. What store can you not leave without buying at least one thing?
TopShop, all the time, it's always such a bad idea to go to TopShop for me because I'll be looking for a birthday gift but end up in having 3 personal shoppers and trying on different types of clothes.  I'm such  a mess.

4. Where do you find the best deals?
Honestly, just going to sales and those coupon things!  There's not one specific store that I always find the best deals, since to be honest, I'm a very impulsive buyer.

5. What designer are you willing to splurge for?
There's not one specific designer I splurge for but in general I splurge on a lot of designer stuff like make-up, handbags (!!), shoes (!!!!!), accessories and sometimes clothing.  However, there are some designers I have more stuff from than others.

6. Do you have a "go to" shopping outfit?
I don't have a go to shopping outfit but I tend to follow a pattern on shopping outfits.  I try to wear something easy to slip off for trying on clothes and comfortable if I'm doing a lot of walking.  Since I can't wearing dresses for most of the year I usually end up wearing jeggings or leggings and a top or oversized sweater with a cute bag and docs or boots.

7. What is your guilty pleasure? (Aside from make up)
ONLINE SHOPPING AND BROWSING!  There's this website called Wanelo and it is the ultimate online shopping website.  It's like a bunch of items and it links you to the store you can purchase them at.  I'll make a separate post with all my favourite online stores in the future since it's become quite an addiction.

8. What is one staple clothing piece you cannot live without?
I recently got this new jacket from Aritzia and I enjoy it quite a lot.  I'm put a picture of it below since I can't explain it but I just really like it.  It's called the Talula Trooper Jacket.

9. What is a trend you hope never goes out of style?
The oversized sweater trend because its so comfy and it's basically what I live in 300% of the time.  And the new flower crown trend because I'm absolutely obsessed with it.

10. What trend did you love that passed way to quickly?
I'm not quite sure, this makes me think a bit.  Probably colour blocking.

11. Who is your fashion icon?
I don't have just one, but all my fashion icons have very different styles.  Alexa Chung just because I love her, Lauren Conrad, Atlantic-Pacific, Leighton Meester, Whitney Port and just in general I get a lot of inspiration off Tumblr.

So that is it for this tag, let me know in the comments if you are a shopaholic and what are you greatest fashion weeknesses!  Thanks for reading I love you all x
